PO3 Research Scientist (Biosecurity)

State Government organisation which promotes profitable agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries for Queensland. Employing over 2000 people in areas including policy development, leading-edge science, biosecurity, fisheries, forestry management, trade and export.
 
About the Role:
 
As a PO3 Research Scientist (Biosecurity) you will be working with experienced teams.
36.25 hours in this contract position until June 2025, with genuine opportunities for extension. This role is based in Brisbane CBD .
 
Duties:

  • Work within plant biosecurity to achieve plant pest and disease surveillance outcomes.
  • Performing scientific/ technical literature reviews and write concise scientific reports, papers and recommendations for review by more experienced staff;
  • Positively and effectively collaborate with other scientists (e.g. other sub-programs, government departments, external research institutes) to actively resolve problems, address scientific challenges and deliver innovative scientific solutions to strategically manage biosecurity risks.
  • prioritising pests for further analysis, assisting in pest risk and pathway analysis
  • contributing to ongoing improvement, validation and currency of scientific practices within plant biosecurity surveillance
  • Present research at state/ national conferences with direct supervision and input from a senior scientist.

To be successful in this role, you will be need to demonstrate:

  • Must have current C Class drivers’ licence;
  • Diploma in Applied Science, Rural Science, or Rural Techniques from a recognised tertiary institution;
  • Experience working within Agriculture sector and experienced handling documentation, following process and procedures;
  • Experience in working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary teams;
  • Reliability and ability to commence immediately;
  • Must be willing to undergo Police Check

The pay rate will be $61.49p/h.
