BoM brain awarded
Australia’s weather guru has been honoured in annual awards this week.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s General Manager Observing Systems and Operations, Bryan Hodge, is responsible for ensuring millions of Australians get an accurate view when they open their weather apps.
Mr Hodge was honoured with a Public Service Medal (PSM) announced this week.
He was among a group of top public servants recognised among a list of 1,047 Australians, ranging from 37 to 102 years of age, for their services to the community in the 2023 Australia Day honour roll.
Mr Hodge is also the Bureau's chief engineer, putting him in control of a battery of sensors, weather stations and radars scattered across the Australian continent and Pacific region.
Australia’s radar network is one of the best in the world, providing highly advanced coverage despite the nation’s comparatively small population, and it is because of dedicated and passionate staff like Mr Hodge that the system remains in the top of its class.
