Coca-Cola Amatil has announced it will consider pursuing legal action against Keep Australia Beautiful over the introduction of the Northern Territory container deposit laws that would provide a 10 cent refund on containers.

Coca-Cola Amatil says that laws could breach Commonwealth Mutual Recognition Act, which guarantee standard regulation of the sale of goods around Australia.

Keep Australia Beautiful founder and chairman Ian Kiernan said that the push in the Northern Territory would derail the national push for the implementation of the deposit laws.

"If they win, it will be a huge win for the irresponsible beverage industry and a huge loss for the environment, and the citizens of Australia," Mr Kiernan told the ABC.

"Coca-Cola Amatil is a multinational (and) this is just a disgusting display of their arrogance”

"I mean, they sell us the beverage product, they sell us the container, plus a profit, plus GST, then they expect us to dispose of it. That is no longer acceptable,” Mr Kiernan said.
