Council beats own emissions targets
Mount Alexander Shire council has announced that it has beaten its own emissions reductions councils by 8%.
The council aimed to reduce its emissions by 30% by 2010, but instead found that it had slashed its levels by 38%.
Mayor Janet Cropley says while it has been a significant cost for the council, the community values the investment.
"We're certainly aware that it's not the lowest cost we could be doing but we think it's the responsible thing to do be doing," she said.
"Street lighting is a very big expenditure item for all local councils and so when we moved to green energy there it certainly has a big impact."
