Opposition's move to cancel parks voted down
Parliament has voted down a motion by the Coalition to kill of the Federal Government’s network of marine parks.
The Opposition moved to disallow all six marine parks which will be set to cover over 2.3 million square kilometres as marine reserves.
But the move was voted down in Parliament earlier this week.
Minister for the Environment, Tony Burke, said that the move would undo decades of conservation work.
"Under Tony Abbott, the Liberals will say no to anything that involves protecting the oceans. They will abolish national parks in the oceans and invite the super trawler back as soon as they can,” Mr Burke said.
"This Government has a proud record of protecting the oceans. Two futures are now on offer. Tony Abbott's plan plunders the oceans, ours' protects them."
