New South Wales’s Richmond Valley Council has received the award for Best Tasting Tap Water in Australia. 

The winner of the annual Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) award took out the accolade with water produced at the Casino Water Treatment Plant. 

Casino’s water sample will now go on to represent Australia at the annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition held in West Virginia in the United States.

It beat out some serious local competition from fellow finalists Anstey Hill WTP (SA Water/SUEZ), Wyndham WTP (Water Corporation), Ian Bartlett Water Purification Plant (Westernport Water), Rocky Creek WTP (TasWater), and Marian WTP (Mackay Regional Council). 

The competition was streamed online, with the judging panel placed in Hobart, the home state of 2021's winner, the Rossarden Water Treatment Plant in Tasmania. 

TasWater took out the international competition last year.
