The Victorian Government is calling for Expressions of Interest from organisations to develop large-scale waste infrastructure projects capable of processing 100,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial waste per year.

The Government has announced $6.5 million in grants would be made available through the Resource Recovery Infrastrucre Fund with the aim of supporting the development of major infrastructure to recycle and recover commercial and industrial waste.

State Minister for the Environment, Ryan Smith, said the targeting grant funding would see significant improvements to the State’s processing infrastructure.

“The funding will be focused on encouraging the development of several large-scale infrastructure projects to significantly boost the processing and recovery of commercial and industrial waste,” Mr Smith said.

“We want to help recover and process more of the commercial and industrial waste, such as cardboard, metals, plastics, glass and timber that is going to waste in our landfills.

“Along with diverting waste from landfill, these initiatives will also help create new and sustainable employment across Victoria.”

Sustainability Victoria will run an information session for interested parties to assist with the application and assessment process.
