Water bodies seek new blood
Applications are now being accepted for two vital basin advisory committees.
The positions offer a unique chance to influence water and resource management in Australia's iconic Lake Eyre Basin and the Great Artesian Basin.
The federal government is looking for people with scientific expertise and a profound connection to the Lake Eyre Basin to join the Lake Eyre Basin Scientific Advisory Panel.
This panel plays a pivotal role in providing scientific counsel to the Lake Eyre Basin ministers, guiding the responsible management of water and natural resources.
Expressions of interest are solicited for both panel members and the Chair position.
Ideal candidates should specialise in areas such as hydrology (particularly in relation to Lake Eyre Basin rivers), hydrogeology, freshwater ecology conservation, water quality, environmental planning, and restoration.
Furthermore, candidates with a deep understanding of First Nations' custodianship of Country, their intrinsic water values, and their alignment with current resource management frameworks will be particularly favoured.
No prior experience on a government advisory body is required but is preferred.

Additionally, two First Nations member positions are currently open on the Great Artesian Basin Stakeholder Advisory Committee.
This committee plays advises basin ministers on matters pertaining to the sustainability of artesian and sub-artesian water resources, the environmental, economic, social, and cultural importance of water, basin-wide policies, and the implementation of the Great Artesian Basin Strategic Management Plan 2019.
The Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Water selects committee members to ensure a diverse range of skills and knowledge.
The government says it is seeking First Nations individuals with expertise in community engagement, water resources policy, water sciences, and cultural water management in the Great Artesian Basin.
While previous advisory board experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
