About the role:

This role is responsible for growing opportunities to realise positive research outcomes in Indigenous Land Management across our network. The role will provide Indigenous leadership in shaping and delivering Firesticks’ Research Strategy, and work alongside the Research Design Lead as a part of the Research team supporting network-wide and hub community research initiatives. While the role is advertised for Brisbane, this will be a remote position and will accept applications from all Australian States & Territories.

Key duties:

  • Coordination and delivery of Community research
  • Lead the ongoing development of Firesticks’ strategic objectives, including supporting Indigenous research pathways and scholarship programs
  • Lead and collaborate on a range of research initiatives
  • Fundraising and Reporting
  • Facilitate and actively support the design and implementation of Indigenous governance systems
  • Managing Firesticks’ role in co-developing methods for biocultural-related economies, programs and future investments
  • Co-develop and grow opportunities for research
  • Representation and Relationship Building
  • Collaborative Work

About you:

  • In-depth knowledge of the key drivers of Indigenous land and sea management including cultural burning, nature and biodiversity sectors, key industry partners and the ability to shape strategic directions in research.
  • Ability to develop and lead portfolios of work
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting successful engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders within the research space across government and industry clients, research agencies, Indigenous corporations and Communities
  • Experience managing and working effectively with ICIP, IP and benefit-sharing arrangements
  • Demonstrable leadership experience within a multi-disciplinary team environment and a record of accomplishment in supporting the professional growth of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

Qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Ecology, environmental studies or a related field. A Master’s degree or higher is preferred or equivalent to five years’ experience in a research field, together with relevant practical experience in developing and promoting Indigenous scientific and research agendas
  • Current driver's license and ability to travel
  • Proven ability to manage staff (preferably in remote work settings)

Salary negotiable based on experience.
