Graduate Research Assistant
Tropical ReGen is an off-grid research station led by ClimateForce Ltd, focusing on high biodiversity land restoration and diversification. We are a registered not-for-profit seeking a detail-oriented, data-driven, passionate individual with a desire to positively impact both environmental and social change.
Our core mission is to protect and maintain two foundational symbols of Far North Queensland: Reef and Rainforest. Tropical Regen aims to regenerate a rainforest corridor in the Daintree—the oldest rainforest system in the world. Our pilot property is 527 acres of overgrown farm that borders two pristine biodiverse ecosystems—the rainforest and mangroves. To return the landscape to its original setting, Tropical ReGen will bridge a wildlife corridor between the mangroves and the rainforest, using organic weed management and driving innovation in the regeneration sector with new techniques, technologies and data collection methods.
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Assistance in developing and implementing monitoring and management systems within rainforest regeneration
- Assistance with data collection, management, analysis and visualisation throughout the ‘seed to canopy’ journey
- Provide weekly updates to the Research Director, Jack Lever
For this role, a successful candidate will ideally have the following:
- Tertiary science-based qualification, with some knowledge of tropical flora and fauna desirable
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in dynamic tropical environments
- Ability to work independently on routine procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Organised, detail-orientated and self-motivated personality
- Previous experience in tropical climates would be considered favourably.
This opportunity would be perfect for a recent graduate eager to start their journey into the Wet Tropics research space, looking at ways to reduce impact and improve the efficiency of rainforest regeneration efforts.
We are open to applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds – the most important characteristic of an applicant is an eagerness to learn. Please get in touch if you aren’t sure whether you are qualified for the role.
This is a part-time research assistant position, with accommodation options available if required. Please get in touch for further details.
The Daintree is within the Wet Tropics region, and the environment here can be challenging. Please be aware that this role will require working in various weather conditions, from hot and humid to rainy and wet.
Please send your cover letter & resume to the following:
Jack Lever: jack.lever@climateforce.au
Job Applications close on 1st December. Interviews will take place in early December. The role will commence at the start of January, but the start date can be flexible for an ideal applicant.
As an ambitious organisation with strong philanthropic support, we are growing quickly. There are many opportunities for training, development and progression as we scale.
We look forward to receiving your application.
