About the Role
The School of Chemistry seeks an academic in Environmental/Analytical Chemistry. The role involves collaborative research within the University of Melbourne, contributing to teaching in Chemistry and Environmental Science, developing a research program, and securing external funding. The appointee will supervise research students and have access to extensive research infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Actively contribute to teaching, including the development and delivery of course materials in environmental and analytical chemistry, as well as marking, coordination of staff in relevant subjects (courses) and oversee demonstrators in the laboratory.
• Significantly contributing to research, scholarship and teaching. You will make independent and original contributions that expand knowledge or practice in your discipline, having a significant impact on your field of expertise and society.
• Actively participate in School and/or Faculty meetings, playing a major role in planning activities or committee work to support capacity building in the School/discipline.
• Contribute to effective supervision of junior research and teaching staff in your area of expertise and across the School, helping nurture a collaborative, innovative and effective teaching culture and community of practice.

Who We Are Looking For
You will have the ability and enthusiasm for teaching chemistry at all tertiary levels, along with excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Additionally, you will possess strong interpersonal and organisational skills, the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines, and the capacity to work well with academic staff and contribute to school activities.

You will also have:

• A PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline.
• A track record of high-quality impactful publications in leading international journals, relative to opportunity, in the areas of Environmental and/or Analytical Chemistry.
• Evidence (relative to opportunity) of the potential to attract research funding from national competitive research bodies and other sources, including industry, relative to opportunity.
• Ability to attract and supervise postgraduate (research higher degree) students, relative to opportunity.

The School of Chemistry at The University of Melbourne is one of the largest and oldest in Australia with a distinguished history in teaching and research. The first lectures in chemistry in The University of Melbourne were given in 1856, only three years after the University was founded.
