We are looking for an Environmental Health Officer to join our client team within local government. You will need a solid understanding of public and environmental health legislation. Your technical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders make you an invaluable part of their team and make a difference to their community.
The Role
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a critical role in promoting and maintaining public health standards across our local government area. Working closely with the Team Leader of Environmental Health, you will:
- Investigate complaints and collaborate on assessing applications and referrals under the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Public Health Act 2010, Food Act 2003, Swimming Pools Act 1992 (including Swimming Pools Amendment Act 2012), POEO Underground Petroleum Storage Systems (UPSS) Regulations 2019, and other relevant legislation.
- Perform general Environmental Health Officer duties, including onsite wastewater assessments and providing advice to the community on environmental health matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections, audits, and investigations to ensure compliance with relevant Acts and Regulations.
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding environmental health issues, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
- Assess and provide recommendations for environmental and public health applications, including food safety, noise, water quality, and pollution control.
- Support the implementation of council programs to promote community awareness and compliance with environmental health standards.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate records, and contribute to council planning processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or a relevant discipline.
- Ability to solve problems and work with minimum supervision in a team environment in relation to public health requirements and associated regulatory activities, enforcement and assessment processes.
- Current Class C Driver's Licence.
- Experience and knowledge in the operation of on-site sewage management systems would be advantageous.
