About the role


Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters is seeking a talented Aquarist/Conservation Tour Guide to join our dedicated team. As a full-time role based in Anna Bay, NSW, this position will play a vital part in the daily care and maintenance of our marine life, as well as leading engaging conservation-focused tours for our visitors.

What you'll be doing

  • Providing exceptional care and husbandry for our diverse collection of sharks, rays, and other marine species
  • Monitoring water quality, performing water changes, and maintaining aquarium systems to ensure optimal health and welfare of all animals
  • Assisting with the introduction of new specimens and quarantine procedures
  • Delivering informative and educational conservation-themed tours to our guests
  • Collaborating with the wider team to develop and implement strategic initiatives to promote marine conservation
  • Contributing to the maintenance of aquarium equipment and facilities
  • Adhering to all relevant safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures

What we're looking for

  • Formal qualifications in aquarium management, marine biology, or a related field
  • Minimum 1 years' experience working as an aquarist or in a similar role, preferably within a public aquarium or zoo environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in the husbandry and care of a diverse range of marine species
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage and educate visitors of all ages
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Passion for marine conservation and a commitment to promoting sustainable practices
  • Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and occasional evenings as required
