Environmental Regulation Division

Ongoing vacancy
Bring your experience in environmental management and/or regulation to the team and make a real difference protecting the Territory’s environment.
The NT Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) was established with a clear vision that the Northern Territory’s natural assets are managed sustainably for the benefit of all. The Environmental Regulation Division is responsible for striking a balance between protecting the Territory’s environment and enabling sustainable development. The Division ensures compliance with the Territory’s environmental laws by applying best practice regulatory principles across the regulatory spectrum, from assessment through to compliance and enforcement. We commit to being proportionate, accountable, consistent, targeted and transparent (PACTT) in providing our regulatory service.
As a Senior Environment Officer, you will use your skills and knowledge of environmental science, environmental management and regulation to effectively and efficiently administer the NT’s environmental legislation. You will be involved in the assessment, approval and licensing of activities that may potentially harm the environment and undertake compliance and enforcement action to ensure environmental safeguards are met.
You will play a key leadership role in the team to regulate in line with the Division’s annual Compliance Plan and Compliance and Enforcement Framework and provide specialist advice and support to junior officers in a mentoring role.
To be successful, you will have proven experience in environmental science, management and/or auditing/compliance and regulation. You also require an ability to manage multiple projects, negotiate, problem-solve, work independently and mentor junior staff.
We pride ourselves in our friendly and supportive team culture that encourages professional development and continuous improvement through cooperation, training and respectful feedback.
You will be rewarded with a competitive salary package including 11%superannuation, 6 weeks recreational and 3 weeks personal leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, negotiable flexible work arrangement, potential for assistance with relocation costs, and an opportunity to experience the uniqueness of living in the Northern Territory.
This is a great time to consider a move to the Territory. Enjoy an enviable laidback lifestyle with short commutes, tropical sunsets, spectacular lightning displays and unique landscapes and waterholes. Darwin’s rich cultural society and community spirit makes it an easy place to meet people and make new friends.
