The Role 

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Mechanical Reliability Engineer to support the PKET (Port Kembla Energy Terminal) operations and engineering team in maintaining safe and efficient operations. Reporting to the Terminal & Firming Asset & Maintenance Manager, this role will provide mechanical engineering expertise while fostering a fundamental process understanding throughout the team. You will also be responsible for the development and ownership of reliability management systems and processes for the PKET facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing insight into equipment capability and constraints, developing procedures to ensure adherence to designed safe operating envelopes and environmental licences.  
  • Providing Mechanical engineering insight during development and review of operational procedures, HAZID’s and HAZOP’s. 
  • Provide SME advice on the Mechanical aspects of the PKET operations.  
  • Engage with key operational partners in maintaining end to end process understanding in the areas of Mechanical safety and plant optimisation. 
  • Developing an ongoing process for reliability engineering and failure root cause analysis. 
  • Provide SME advice during development of Risk Assessed maintenance activities. 
  • Provide Technical advice during the development of Emergency response plans and activities. 
  • Ownership of Key KPI’s and reporting.
  • Champion Asset/Equipment Condition Monitoring 
  • Assist in discipline site-specific Maintenance Projects
  • SME owner of Hardware Barrier Integrity 
  • Provide key Technical Assurance
  • Ensure compliance to relevant processes and standards, statutory legislation, Risk Controls, and Industry, Australian or Government Standards 
  • Assist with the development of maintenance strategies for new equipment
  • Develop and implement reliability improvement strategies. 
  • Support asset life-cycle costing model work.
  • Perform engineering calculations to determine optimisation options, adhere to Australian Standards, and follow industry best practices to ensure plant reliability 

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer within the process industry, preferably in oil and gas or chemicals
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • Experience with a Major Hazard Facility
  • Process Safety Training and Fundamental Process Safety Knowledge
  • Project Management Experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Competence with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work within a team and develop/coach others
  • Ability to conduct complex data analysis and calculations with a high level of accuracy
